About the project

The Sunwoda Battery Park in Deinze is designed to support grid stability and energy flexibility in Belgium. The project demonstrates how large-scale battery energy storage systems, with 10 MW / 55 MWh, can play a key role in balancing renewable energy production and demand. This site reflects a broader shift towards smarter, more resilient energy infrastructure in Europe.

We are proud to introduce Suerza as the name of this innovative project. Backed by strong and committed partners, Patronale Life is a shareholder of EcoSourcen and Suerza, reinforcing the long-term vision and financial strength behind this initiative.

Grid Stability & Flexibility

The battery park helps balance supply and demand on the electricity grid by storing excess energy and releasing it when needed. This supports a more stable and resilient energy system, especially with increasing renewable energy generation.

Large-Scale Battery Energy Storage in Operation

The project showcases a fully operational, utility-scale battery energy storage system. It demonstrates how advanced battery technology can be deployed safely and efficiently in real-world conditions.

FAQ

Have a question?
Find the answer below.

Where will the event take place?

The event will take place across two locations: the morning sharing session and evening dinner will be held at Palace Boom, while the project site visit will take place at the battery energy storage project site.

Fluvius

Grid saturation in Flanders is a growing challenge, how does Fluvius address the consequences of the energy transition. Connecting (Stand alone) batteries to the grid, how can we shift from peak-increasing behaviour to grid friendly operation, minimising the operational risk for the DSO and  the financial risk for the operator? Moving from  non-reserved technical flexibility to market-based flexibility, from obligation to active contribution. And looking even further ahead: improving grid reliability through batteries on wheels, M-BaaS, Planned maintenance solutions, Shore Power and more.
